A briefing of local news that matters
Recreation: Urban hunting is coming soon
Urban hunting could make its way to Grand Rapids. After years of discussions about lowering the city’s deer population, local regulators are working on an urban deer hunting initiative. The program would allow a bow-and-arrow-only hunt in select parts of the city. The plan has to make it through the approval process.
Business: QR codes = more businesses
Downtown Grand Rapids brought in new businesses thanks to a unique QR code campaign. The campaign placed QR codes on vacant buildings that linked to short surveys. The survey helped potential retailers and companies understand what the community wants. The campaign has been successful in helping city organizers fill two major commercial buildings downtown.
Pets: Puppy mill rescues land in Grand Rapids
On Saturday, Grand Rapids became home to 138 rescue pups who need a forever home. The puppies were saved from a large-scale commercial breeding (puppy mill) operation. Although it’s unclear what’ll happen with all the pups, many are adoptable at West Michigan animal shelters.
