A briefing of local news that matters

Festive:  Santa is coming to town

On Saturday, Gentex is hosting this year’s annual Santa Parade downtown. The parade is expected to be the biggest turnout in recent years — featuring 50+ parade entries, followed by the tree lighting ceremony and the (tentative) opening of Rosa Park Circle Ice Rink. The event is still looking for volunteers click here to learn more!

Leisure:  Trip down memory lane

The Public Museum has gone back in time to Old Grand Rapids. In this exhibit, GRPL recreated a 3/4 scale shopping center from 1890s Grand Rapids. It has 11 storefronts based on actual businesses and real merchandise you can pick up. If you don’t want to check it out in person, you can take a virtual tour for free.

Update:  Turkey Trot breaks records

This year’s GRPS Turkey Trot happened last Thursday and it crushed previous years records. The run pulled in 6,435 runners from around the state. The cherry on top? GRPS raised more than $300,000 to help fund the school district’s sports programs.

Guide:  A bug-free Christmas

Are you buying a real tree this year? Hart Tree Farm in Rockford dropped some advice on how to have an insect-free Christmas.

Feel Good Story Of The Week

A local non-profit called Cookies with a Cause is sending cookies with holiday spirits to our people serving overseas.

The cookie drive has been around for 6 years. Their goal this year is to provide 1,500 soldiers with a dozen cookies each.

And to make that happen, they need your help.

The organization is asking community members, churches, schools, and businesses to consider baking cookies to donate.

Here’s how…

Bake whatever cookies you’d like, label the type of cookies they are, then drop them off at the following locations by Saturday.

  • Sobie Meats | Walker | 9 AM – 2 PM

  • Putt Putt's Bar | Grand Rapids | 11 AM – 3 PM

  • Rockford Sportsman Club | Rockford | 12 PM – 3 PM

  • Two Guys Brewing | Wyoming | 12 PM – 4 PM

  • Bekins Appliance | Grand Rapids | 10 AM – 3 PM

For more information, you can read their Facebook page or email the organizer (Shannon) directly at [email protected]
