Good morning, Grand Rapids. Iâm LeQwane and this is Calder News â and something new is coming, but itâs just for the crew.
A few months back, we asked if youâd be into a Calder News âCrew Card.â
The idea? Team up with 6 of Grand Rapidsâ most-loved local restaurants and hook you up with 15â20% off, one-time discounts at each spot.
Well, yâall loved the idea, so Iâm making it happen.
The Calder Crew Card will drop in late June (date pending), however early access is coming even sooner. Only 100 cards will be made (thatâs 1 card for every 40 Calder News readers), and theyâll cost $12. Getting you $20â$30 in savings, easily.
So before we dive into todayâs newsâŠ
Would you buy a Calder Crew Card?Let me know if youâre interested below â and keep an eye out for the early drop because the first 20 cards will be discounted. đ |
Thanks for reading todayâs issue of Calder News.
Have a good weekend!

A new mixed-use building called Robinson Road Flats, is coming to Eastown, replacing three vacant commercial buildings near Lake Drive. The $8.2M project will add 24 apartments and retail space (likely a boutique or cafe). The city approved $1.5M in funds to help cover site cleanup and demolition costs, while keeping rents reasonable for some units. Construction is expected to wrap up by mid-2026. | Learn more about the development

Name Debate Holds Up New Park
Grand Rapids' first new park since 2011 is almosst readyâbut there's one problem. What to call it. The Roosevelt Park neighborhood narrowed options down to two favorites, Navarro Plaza (honoring local leaders Miguel and Isabel Navarro) and Unity Park (highlighting community diversity). With community votes basically tied, city officials have paused the decision, considering a compromise or another community vote. The goal? A name that truly represents and welcomes everyone in the neighborhood. | Learn when youâll be able to vote on the parkâs name
Historic Four Star Theatre Gets Big Renovation
The historic Four Star Theatre in Burton Heights just secured a $325K grant to continue its restoration. Built in 1939, the theatre has hosted everything from movies to music legends over the decades. The new funds will help restore the buildingâs siting and iconic marquee, turning the venue into a fully-functional cultural arts center. The project started in 2017 and aims to wrap up in the next few years, bringing a historic Grand Rapids spot back to life. | Read more
