Good morning, Grand Rapids. I’m LeQwane and this is Calder News — with your mid-week update on everything going on around town.

Before we get into today’s issue, I’d like to ask you a question.

I’ve noticed there have been lots of local businesses closing. And I want to use our platform to help change that.

If we partnered with 6-8 local restaurants to create a Calder News “Crew Discount Card” would you buy one?

My theory: You save $20-$40 while trying great food. And local businesses get an opportunity at another forever customer (if you’re not already one).

Let me know your answer below

The card would get you 10-20% discounts at highly recommended local restaurants around Grand Rapids and it'll cost about $10

With that, let’s jump into today’s newsletter. It’ll be a quick one!

Housing

40-Home Development Comes To Walker

A new neighborhood is coming to Walker — 40 homes will be built on a 19-acre site at 4519 Richmond St. NW just 2 miles from I-96. The project is called Brightside Lane. And it’ll sit on commercial and agricultural land city officials converted to residential use to meet our growing housing demand. The project has a few stages of approvals left which are expected to pass by the end of this month. | Learn more about the suburban project here

Here’s a perfect excuse to go out next weekend — a new cocktail lounge and event space named Ashton, is set to open inside of The B.O.B next Friday. Located on the third floor — the lounge has drinks galore with a “cool yet inviting atmosphere”. And has space for up to 350 folks to host events.
