Good morning, Grand Rapids. Iâm LeQwane and this is Calder News â the free place to learn whatâs happening in your backyard on the coldest mornings.
I hope you had a solid weekend. And are ready for a productive week ahead.
Anyway, in todayâs email: I cover how to beat the freeze, hunters helping our deer problem, and how a GR man beat his own Genniuss World Record twice. Plus a bunch more.
Now letâs get into it!

Beat The Freeze
Grand Rapids is experiencing the coldest air in six years. And although Iâm sure youâll be more than fine, I thought Iâd use this platform to spread some helpful information.
p.s 2,000+ locals read this. If you donât need the general advice, no problemo â feel free to skip this. I wonât get upset. đ
Here are a few pieces of advice and things you need to know!
Give people on the road more space than usual.
Make sure your car has gas just in case you need it.
Drinks or liquid inside cars (outside or in a garage) can explode.
Rock salt wonât work in these temperatures.
Itâs more efficient to heat yourself up than your whole house.
If you or someone you know needs a place to warm up, here is where to go.
And most importantly, donât overthink or prep anything.
This cold air wonât be here for long. And as a Michigander, Iâm sure you will deal with worse⌠Stay safe and toasty my friend.
