đź“Ť Big tech is coming to town | October 21st, 2024

Good morning, Grand Rapids. I’m LeQwane and this is Calder News - the 3x weekly newsletter that helps you slash through the noise. And stay updated on everything happening around Grand Rapids.
Since our last email, I received some clever suggestions for new content sections in Calder News.
Whether you dropped a suggestion or not, I appreciate you taking the time to read today’s issue. I hope you have a wonderful week.
Now for today’s news:
🧑‍💻 Big tech is coming to town
🏠️ The next Heritage Hill
🚌 Dean Transporation open interviews
And more…
What’s Happening
Development: Big tech is coming to town
Microsoft has acquired 316 acres of land from Steelcase for what could become a data center. The vacant land is located in SE Grand Rapids at the corner of Patterson and 76th — it was swooped up for $45 million.
Community: The next Heritage Hills
The Auburn Hills Historic Recognition Committee is filing a formal nomination to have the neighborhood added to the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood on the NE side dates back to the 1940s and was one of the first communities that was made to combat redlining in Grand Rapids.
Jobs: Dean Transportation is hiring
On Tuesday, Dean Transportation is hosting open interviews for school bus drivers, school bus attendants, and service techs. Drivers start @ $23.50/hour and service tech pay is based on certifications and experience.
Business: Foxtail Coffee expands its footprint
Foxtail Coffee Co. (a coffee chain from Florida) is expanding — building two new locations in Eastown and Byron Center. The coffee houses will be Grand Rapid’s second and third location for the chain, all of which are operated by the DeVos family’s holding company. DeVos hate aside, Foxtail has some good matcha… Don’t knock it tell ya try it.
Elections: Last call for registering to vote
Today is the final day to register for online voting in Michigan’s General Election. Polls open on Election Day (Tues, Nov 5th), so make sure you’re good to go!

The Grand Rapids Marathon happened this past weekend. And apparent it was one of the largest turnouts to date with thousands of runners.
I didn’t get a chance to see it live, but I enjoyed all the images I saw from the event.
Did you or anyone you know run in the race? |
