Plus, how to avoid traffic from today’s rally
Good Morning, Grand Rapids. I’m LeQwane and this is Calder News - the best place to get up to speed with what’s happening around Grand Rapids.
Hate to admit it, but if all my clocks didn’t automatically update, today’s email would’ve been late. I never remember when daylight savings is happening.😅🤣
Ever wondered what would happen if we didn’t have to change our clocks? Well, the answer is pretty interesting… Anyhow let’s get into this edition of Calder News.

Areas to avoid if you don’t want to deal with traffic during the rally
Elections: Campaign trail ends in Grand Rapids
The Trump-Vance campaign is holding its final rally in our backyard later today.
The rally will be hosted at the Van Andel Arena. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and it starts at 10:30 PM. It will feature former President Donald Trump (Vance is in Flint).
If you don’t plan on attending the rally, it’s best to avoid downtown this evening because…
It will be extra packed following normal rush hour times
There will be an increased police presence
US-131 exits/entrances at Pearl and Cherry may close
I-96 could close on Ottawa
Also, if you have any questions regarding voting (registering, where to go, how to, etc.), there’s heaps of information on Michigan.gov that could help.
Community: Degage and Mel Trotter open a safe place
Degage Ministries and Mel Trotter Ministries are partnering to launch a new community center for the homeless in Grand Rapids. Starting today, the community center will open its doors at The Vault giving people a warm place to go during the day — the space accommodates 80 people, and will act as a meeting place while providing free meals. The facility will be open until the end of March but could be extended depending on funding requirements.
Food: Every foodie’s dream
Foodies, we’re so back — Restaurant Week is here for its 15th anniversary. From now until Saturday, 50+ local restaurants are putting up their best 2-3+ course meals for the chance to earn your vote for #1. The meals are priced from $25 to $45 across all restaurants.
