You made it to Friday, Grand Rapids. I’m LeQwane and this is Calder News — the answer to every “what’s going on downtown this weekend” post you see online.

Have a good pre-Thanksgiving weekend (if that’s a thing).

What’s Happening

A briefing of local news that matters

Recreation:  Help name a new park

Want to have a lasting impact on Grand Rapids — how about picking the name of a new park (without spending Van Andel’s levels of money)? A new park is set to be built on the SW side of town. And last summer the GR Parks & Rec. tapped the community for naming suggestions for the park. Over 165 suggestions came in and have been narrowed down to just six. And today is the last day you can vote on a name. Click here to vote.

Local Business:  Independent bookstore opens

Earlier this week, Cellar Bird Books celebrated its grand opening. The bookstore is one of a few independent bookstores in Grand Rapids. And their goal is to become a community space for customers. If you’re an avid or casual reader, check it out whenever you get a chance.

Fun:  Collect $200 as you pass Calder Plaza”

Grand Rapids is getting an edition of Monopoly. Created by a Hasbro licensee, the special edition game will feature local businesses, properties, and locations around town. The game is in production with a launch date set next year.

Leisure:  GRPM re-opens its LEGO exhibit

I feel like Lego has been the talk of this week — The Grand Rapids Public Museum LEGO exhibit is back for the holiday season. This year’s offering showcases improved detailed displays and a museum wild minifigure scavenger hunt.
