GR Approves New Budget + Adds Staff
Grand Rapids just approved a $735M budget for next year, adding 22 positions, including more 911 operators and electricians to help with power outages. City commissioners decided not to raise parking ticket fines to make it happen. To fund the budget, taxes will rise slightly due to higher property values, costing most residents about $39 more next year. | Learn more about the budget changes

Buell Motorcycle is doing a $18.5 million expansion in Cascade Township. The company is adding 162 jobs and buying a new 120,000-square-foot building near its current Patterson Avenue site. Supported by state funding, the expansion responds to rising demand for its Super Cruiser model. New positions will start around $26 per hour, bringing more manufacturing jobs and economic growth to town. | Read more

Public Museum CEO to Retire
After about two decades leading the Grand Rapids Public Museum, CEO Dale Robertson announced he will retire at the end of 2026. Robertson took charge in 2008 and helped secure stable funding, boosted annual attendance by over 200%, and led the ongoing $50 million expansion—the museum's first major update since 1994. The museum board plans a smooth leadership transition as Robertson wraps up his tenure, continuing a legacy of growth and community-focused education downtown. | Read more about Dale’s tenure

Tulip Time Sets New Record

Although this isn’t really about GR, it is worthy of a mention.
Tulip Time just wrapped up its biggest year ever, bringing nearly 1 million visitors to Holland—up 30% from last year.
The 96-year-old festival, which featured over 4.5 million tulips, generated more than $50M for the local economy.
Planning for next year's Tulip Time (May 2–10, 2026) is already underway, as the festival continues to bloom bigger each year.
