What’s Happening

A briefing of local news that matters

Shopping:  No more loitering

Loiter no more — Woodland Mall has updated its policies to require anyone under the age of 18 to be with an adult while inside the mall. The new policy is effective immediately. However, it is only going to be enforced on Saturdays starting at 6 PM. The parent company that owns Woodland Mall (PREIT) said the change is to stop unsupervised minors from disrupting shoppers.

Volunteer:  Santa needs more helpers

Santa needs your help. With just 3 days from kickoff, organizers of the Santa Parade are looking for helpers (aka volunteers) to maintain the parade and keep people safe. It seems organizers are taking on as much help as possible from anyone open to a time commitment of 3 PM - 7 PM. If that’s you, click here to learn more.

Development:  New high-rises approved

Remember when news about that skyscraper project surfaced a few weeks ago? Well, they are one step closer to becoming a reality. Yesterday, the Grand Rapids City Commission voted to advance the $800M project to build three multi-purpose high-rise buildings downtown. Given the state approves the plan, construction would start as early as Summer 2026.

And while we’re on the topic a local developer is looking to build another mixed-use project on the west side… Construction Simplified proposed a $25M project to redevelop the Adobe In & Out located on Fulton. The property would feature 106 apartments and ground-floor retail space similar to the building across the street from Fulton Place.
