Schools are starting up on Monday, and to most people that means summer is officially over. They’re ready for sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and Halloween decorations.

But I don’t buy that.

While I’m looking forward to cooler weather, there is still a lot of summer fun to be had. This weekend has the Metro Cruise, the Return to the River Festival, and Summer Sounds Under the Shed at Downtown Market.

Get out there and enjoy the summer while you can.

School starts up next week, and for some people, that means we’re officially in fall mode. Nothing says fall quite like Robinette’s: apple picking, cider, doughnuts, and hayrides.

Corn mazes are part of fall fun, too, and every year, Robinette’s chooses a new design to keep explorers guessing. This year, they’ve decided to honor Dolly Parton.

They join 20 other farms across the country to honor Dolly’s legacy of her Imagination Library.

Endcap Market & Studios is holding their grand opening on August 28th, where you can tour the building, meet local artists, and shop handmade goods.

A new sign appeared outside the former Frankie V’s in Wyoming, teasing its reopening.

The vacant Flowerland on 28th Street was bought by Meijer and will be demolished to make way for a gas station and convenience store.

Six new stores are coming to Rivertown Crossings Mall, including a comics store and a Christmas shop.

Gazelle Sports is closing its downtown location after four years because it has limited space for inventory and less foot traffic than its other stores.

Godwin Mercado celebrated one year of supporting local vendors and connecting with neighbors.

For a cool $2 milly, you can own the former Iron Well bar on Leonard. It comes with a dance floor, pool tables, and a liquor license.

🎨 Artists Chosen to Mural-ize Lowell

Four artists from Michigan, Indiana, and Florida were chosen out of 197 applicants to paint new murals around Lowell. If it’s been a while since you’ve strolled through town, consider checking out the new artwork, which will be finished by the end of the month.

♻ Community Composting Now Available

Grand Rapids has set up seven locations around the city where people can dispose of their food scraps, hoping to keep 13,000 tons of waste out of the landfill. If this pilot goes well, more collection bins will be added.

Grand Rapids has changed a lot in 10 years. There are more hotels, more public events, more sports teams. There’s always something happening in the city.

They are conducting a survey looking for opinions on how the city should shape their next ten years. If you fill it out, you get entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card. Check out the survey.
