Bringing Back The Rapids

Experience GR
The city is putting the rapids back into Grand Rapids.
Back in the day (long before any of us), the Grand River was not what it is now. It was a prominent part of the city, filled with fish, real rapids, and just full of life.
In the past couple of years, we’ve lots of development in an effort to bring back all that lost energy to the riverfront. There are too many projects to name today.
And this week, the city approved ~$14.5M in funding for the Grand River Revitalization project itself.
The plan is to not only make the riverfront look nice, but to restore the river’s natural rapids, aquatic habitats for native fish, and further improve recreation along the water.

Public
The Acrisure Amphitheater Experience
In Tuesday’s public safety meeting, officials chatted about how show days at the new Acrisure Amphitheater will feel like a downtown event, not a drive-up and park situation.
Encouraging you to plan a walk or use the free DASH, scooters, or bikes.
Mobile GR and GRPD say a more comprehensive plan for transportation, pedestrians, and parking is still being built.
As for safety, the city is planning on having a regular police presence at every show at the theatre. So there are also ongoing evaluations of the added costs for that!

Beer Festival Kick-Off

Beer Fest at LMCU Ball Park | Joel Bissell
If you’re having a chill Saturday, it might be worth checking out this year’s Beer Festival!
Tomorrow (from 1–6 p.m.) at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park, this year’s Winter Beer Festival will bring ~450 beers from 90+ Michigan breweries, plus music, ice sculptures, fire pits, and more food options.
The biggest change from previous years is that there is no longer a token system for samples, and there are upgraded VIP options.
P.s I saw plenty of local breweries are also hosting their own post-Winter Beer Festival events. Do what you will with this information!
