US-131 to I-196 Closing
Heads up if you're driving downtown this week, the ramp from northbound US-131 to eastbound I-196 is closed today. Itāll reopen Friday around 3 PM due to MDOT doing road and bridge repairs. | Click here for detours
Housing update
Housing Gap Narrows
Kent County has made some progress in adding housing over the past year, with more than 6,000 new units being built since 2022. However, there is still a significant gap for middle-income families. A new report showed the county needs more starter homes, duplexes, and smaller rental units as the population continues to grow. What could be a hurdle? Local developers point to zoning and regulatory issues as potential blockers. | Read more here

Breton Village Has A New Owner
Local developers have sold Breton Village shopping area to WS Development, a Massachusetts-based company. Under Scott Wierda and Brian DeVriesā ownership, Breton Village was transformed from an enclosed mall into an outdoor shopping area featuring specialty stores like Leighās, West Elm, Lululemon, and local favorites Fitzgeraldās Menās Store and Mason Jones. The new owners plan to keep investing in the shopping centerās future. | Read more here

š„ From Food Truck to Brick and Mortar
The well-known Adobo Boy food truck is opening a full-service restaurant this fall. Located at 4492 Planfield Ave, the restaurant will feature authentic Filipino dishes and potentially alcohol. The business is owned by the founder of the Grand Rapids Asian Pacific Foundation.
ā Popular Coffee Shop Opens New Location
Over the weekend, the former west side staple Morning Ritual soft opened its new downtown location. The new space is located at 150 Ottawa and will offer their well known specialty coffee and punk vibes.
š„ Bye-bye IHOP
The Knappās Corner IHOP has officially closed for good. According to a recent Reddit post, the location is displaying this closure sign.
