Road Work on Plainfield Ave
A $4.6 million resurfacing project on Plainfield Avenue between I-96 and Airway Street starts on Tuesday. The goal is to upgrade the ramps, sidewalks, and medians. The project is expected to last through November. So if youâre in the area, plan for lane closures, ramp detours, and nighttime full closures through the summer. | Learn more about detours

Calvin College Builds A Football Field
I know weâve got some NCAA fans â Calvin University has officially started construction on its first-ever football and lacrosse field. Phase One will bring a new turf field with lighting, a scoreboard, and space for both football and menâs and womenâs lacrosse practices. Home games will still be played in the soccer stadium for now, but future plans include a full stadium with seating for 3,500 fans and game-day amenities. | Read more

Dégagé Expands Housing for the Homeless
After seeing major success in its first year, DĂ©gagĂ© Ministries is working to expand its Complex Care Housing program on Jefferson Avenueâan initiative that provides safe, supportive housing for people who are homeless and facing mental illness. The project cut emergency room visits by 65% and EMS calls by 87% for the first 25 residents. Now DĂ©gagĂ©âs goal is to bring that impact to the community by serving 120+ individuals across its properties. The Grand Rapids annual Pride Festival is making a comeback. Celebrating GRâs 2-SLGBTQ+ residents contributions and value to the city, this two day event will kick off June 1st. Itâll feature food, live music from superstar artists, 200+ vendors, beer tents, and more.

Downtown Grand Rapids isnât the only place youâll be able to catch a movie or in a park. East Grand Rapids announced its âConcerts and Movies In The Parkâ series earlier this week and it features some heavy hitters. The best part? Itâs completely free.

This summer, the Front Ave. underpass near GVSU is getting 21 new pieces of wall art that highlight endangered Michigan species. Local and national artists will do the work during the âmural festivalâ from July 21st to July 26th. Learn how to get involved.
